About the Board
Revitalization of the Falls Area has been a long-held priority for the community and is a central feature of the current Master Plan. To further progress towards this objective, the Selectboard and Planning Board formed a steering committee for the purpose of pursing a grant from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). This grant, the Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) program is a results-driven community design effort.
In 2011, the Town received the grant which provided the funds for a multi-disciplinary team of professionals with expertise tailored to respond to South Hadley's specific needs to visit the Town for 3-4 intense and productive days. The results of this visit and work by the team was manifested in a report which is on the Rise of the Falls Facilitation Group page, but it also resulted in creation of the Falls Neighborhood Association by residents of the Falls and numerous recommendations geared towards guiding improvement efforts for the Falls.
As an outgrowth of the SDAT visit and report, the Selectboard created the Rise of the Falls Facilitation Group for the purpose of facilitating and monitoring the implementation of the recommendations provided by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT). Accordingly, the group’s primary duty is to work with other community and Town boards, committees, and agencies to monitor and assist, as appropriate, in the implementation of the recommendations. This task is envisioned as a transitional role until the foundations have been established within the community for achieving the recommended objectives.
